A family-run road haulage business is helping drive interest in a North East-based summer grassroots sports festival, which attracts hundreds of young rugby league players.
Cramlington-based Moody Logistics and Storage is sponsoring the Newcastle Thunder competition and has even named one of its brand new 18-tonne Iveco trucks ‘Geordie Thunder’ to help promote the festival to as wide an audience as possible.
Newcastle Thunder’s Moody Cup returns to Kingston Park Stadium on Sunday 14th August and is played throughout the morning, prior to Newcastle Thunder’s 3pm home clash with Leigh Centurions.
Attracting members of the junior rugby league community from across the North of England, it is one of the biggest grassroots sporting tournaments of its kind. Moody Logistics has sponsored Newcastle Thunder since 2015 and has been associated with the tournament since its launch in 2018.
The free-to-enter Moody Cup, which features U7s up to U16 sides, is open to grassroots clubs across the North East, Cumbria, Yorkshire and Lancashire.
As well as enjoying a superb playing experience, all participants will receive a complimentary ticket for the following Thunder game, while watching family and friends can join the young players in the stands with specially discounted tickets.
Keith Christie, chairman of Newcastle Thunder, the region’s only professional rugby league club, said: “Moody Logistics’ vehicles are a familiar sight on roads up and down the country and it’s fantastic that it is branding one of its newest trucks in the fleet to help promote what is one of the biggest dates in our sporting calendar.”
Richard Moody, operations director at Moody Logistics and Storage, said: “Grassroots sport have an even more important role to play in supporting young people and strengthening and reviving communities post-pandemic.
“That’s why we are so keen to continue our long-standing commitment to Newcastle Thunder’s popular tournament, which encourages and showcases young rugby league talent – and it’s encouraging to know this tournament is proving more popular than ever.”
