Darlington Building Society has been recognised for its invaluable work in the community with a prestigious national award.
It has won the ‘Community Services – smaller lenders’ category at the Mortgage Finance Gazette Awards 2016.
The award recognises work in the local community, to which Darlington Building Society is committed.
To celebrate its 160th anniversary, Darlington Building Society is aiming to raise £160,000 for local causes through a variety of activities and events that are occurring throughout the year. The Society is also giving 160 volunteering days to help local charities and community groups, using the time and skills of staff with the target of helping 160 local causes throughout the year.
Many charities, good causes and individuals have already benefitted from the Society’s generosity with its time and resources and include the 700 Club, Darlington Cares, Billingham Stars ice hockey team, Guisborough Scouts and Mill Hill Primary School in Northallerton.
Colin Fyfe, chief executive of Darlington Building Society, said: “This award makes me so proud of everyone involved with the organisation; our staff and our members.
“To be recognised for our community work in our 160th year is very rewarding. As a Society we pride ourselves on giving something back to all the communities we work in and charities, organisations and individuals across the region have all benefitted from Darlington Building Society’s support, both financial, in terms of time and expertise and in raising awareness of their needs.”
