National Title for Para Table Tennis Player

The Michael Hawksworth National Championships is the most prestigious event in the Para table tennis domestic calendar, Bishop Auckland table tennis club has two representatives at this year’s event. Andrew Green competing in class 3 and band B wheelchairs and Ryan Morton in Class 7 and standing band C. the Saturday saw the boys compete in their respected class, Andrew finished in 3rd place putting in a good performance to take ends off players he usually doesn’t.  Ryan progressed through his group in second place to make the quarter finals, where he just missed out going down 11-9 in the 5th set to Tom Johnson from Isle of wright.

The Sunday saw Andrew in the Band B wheelchair event finishes 4th just missing out on the bronze going down 3-2 in the medal match. Ryan who was seeded number 2 in the Band C standing event, won his group with three, 3-0 victories to claim a quarter final spot, where Ryan had to come from 2-1 down to over come James Adams from London to reach the semis. The Semis once again saw Ryan go 2-1 down to Theo Bishop before coming back to win 3-2 and a place in the final. The final saw Ryan have to face his doubles partner Tim Fields, Ryan saved his best performance for this match and claimed his first national title with a 3-0 victory.
