A disused allotment has been given a green-fingered makeover thanks to support from local businesses and community groups.
Homes and community business livin in partnership with Durham County Councillors, Spennymoor AAP, Mears, Deerness Fencing, and the Clyde Terrace Allotment Association have transformed a neglected part of Clyde Terrace allotment in Spennymoor to create a multiuse community garden for local residents.
The newly revived gated garden is now home to a learning/meeting room, eco-friendly toilet and will host ‘grow your own’ learning sessions for local residents and school children on the allotment plots providing basic skills and gardening techniques.
Vicky Miller, community regeneration manager for livin said: “This community garden will help to promote health and wellbeing amongst tenants and local residents. It will be fantastic to see all ages of the community having the opportunity to grow their own produce whilst gaining some valuable gardening skills.”
