Regional charity supporting prisoners’ families invites members of the public to their annual public meeting
A regional charity which supports families of prisoners is holding its annual general meeting and public meeting on Thursday, November 9 at Durham Marriott Hotel Royal County, Old Elvet, Durham DH1 3JN.
Nepacs is a long standing charity which works across the north east region to help support a positive future for prisoners and their families. Its staff and volunteers provide much valued services to support friends and families of prisoners, in seven prison and young offender establishments across the north east and within the community, including prison visitors’ centres, play areas, youth projects, family support and the Newcastle, Teesside and Durham Crown Courts.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the event from 3.30pm to hear our guest speakers Anne Fox, chief executive of Clinks and Lord Michael Farmer, chair of the recently published Farmer review of ‘The importance of strengthening prisoners’ family ties to prevent reoffending and reduce intergenerational crime.’
Lord Farmer has been a Conservative Peer since October 2014. In his work in the House of Lords he has focused on social justice issues including welfare reform, family stability and domestic abuse. He was also a member of the 2015-16 Lords’ Select Committee on Social Mobility. He recently published the final report from the Farmer Review on the importance of prisoners’ family ties for preventing reoffending and intergenerational crime, commissioned by the Ministry of Justice. This review included visits to Nepacs’ family provision at HMP Frankland, Holme House and Kirklevington Grange.
