New Triathlon Club’s First Event

Hambleton’s new triathlon club named ‘HaTric’ ran their first event earlier this month.

Following an open meeting in July for anyone interested in triathlon, a group of volunteers stepped forward to take on key committee roles which allowed them to officially constitute themselves as a triathlon club – with coached swimming sessions taking place on Saturdays at Thirsk and Sowerby Leisure Centre led by a British Triathlon coach between 5 – 6 pm.

The event consisted of a 200m swim and a 2k run with 27 people taking part.

“The Go Tri event was a fantastic success thanks to the support of our new club members, North Yorkshire Sport, Hambleton District Council and British Triathlon,” said Donna James, Chairman.

“There were so many people new to the sport who entered, who had lots of fun and surprised themselves with how well they did. Our new club is open to anyone over the age of 16 regardless of ability and experience and we urge anyone interested in triathlon to come along. We hope to add a junior section next year.”
