New year, new skills for teachers

Campus North will be rolling out courses for teachers in tech and digital skills in January after the success of its pilot sessions.

Teachers from St Oswald’s C of E Primary School piloted the first courses in coding, computers and electronic skills as part of Campus North’s Tech for Life programme. The courses are unique in being developed and delivered by industry experts. The aim is to help plug the digital skills gap by giving practical hands-on learning so teachers can take new skills and ideas and practical activities to take back to the classroom.

Feedback from the pilot course was positive, comments included:

“I liked that it was a practical session, which allowed us to run the activities as the children would.”

“After doing the Intro to Coding course, I feel more confident about teaching computing effectively.”

St Oswald’s Headteacher Helen Smith said, “We were pleased to be able to pilot this course at Campus North. We need to make sure our students are well equipped for the opportunities that will be offered in the future in digital and technology careers. It is a fast moving environment and to be able to improve our own skills by working with industry experts means we feel confident we can now teach students in more creative and up to date ways.”

Lyndsey Britton, Co-Founder of Campus North said, “We believe it’s up to industry to lead the way in supporting teachers. We’re delighted to have had our experts keen to both design and deliver these courses. We were pleased to pilot the training with St Oswalds’, the feedback has been helpful in making sure we are delivering just what teachers will find useful and practical.”

There is an open evening for educators, headteachers and partners to find out more about working together to equip the next generation with the right digital skills at Campus North on 16th January at 4.30pm.
