A Newcastle care home is celebrating after it received the highest possible accolade from industry watchdogs, who praised its “compassionate, knowledgeable and respectful staff.”
Melton House, at Brandling Park, Gosforth – operated by leading North East care provider Prestwick Care – has been declared Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.
And that brings the company’s total of Outstanding homes to five.
All aspects of the home came in for praise, with inspectors singling out the 67-bed home for its “positive culture and atmosphere” and “truly person-centered service.”
Melton House – which looks directly out over Newcastle Racecourse – provides personal and nursing care for the elderly and those with dementia and physical disabilities.
And, following a thorough inspection by the CQC, the purpose-built home was rated outstanding overall and specifically in the areas of care and leadership.
In its report, the Commission wrote: “People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible.
It continued: “Staff were extremely proud to work for the service and said they felt supported by the whole management team,” who it found were, “extremely knowledgeable and understood the responsibilities of their roles. “
The report concluded: “The outcomes for people receiving care and support were exceptional and we received extremely positive feedback from people and relatives about the care provided.
“People were treated with the utmost respect by compassionate and kind staff who showed empathy with all their interactions.”
Outstanding ratings are handed out very rarely by the CQC and Melton House is the second Prestwick Care home to receive the rating in the past two months.
Its sister venue, Bede House, Sunderland, was declared Outstanding in October and Prestwick Care CEO, Bunty Malhotra, said he was “absolutely delighted” with the latest rating.
“This is a truly remarkable and exceptional result,” he said. “It is very special to receive an Outstanding rating from the regulator and, to have five, reflects the strength of our organisational structure and our company’s values.
“This rating is unquestionably testament to the hard work, commitment and dedication of our management and staff at Melton House.
