The two new appointments have been brought in to enhance United’s existing team.
Cristian Fernandez Martinez joins the Club in the role of rehabilitation fitness coach. Cristian’s role will bridge the gap between injured players’ treatment and their full return to training, working on the delivery of bespoke rehabilitation programmes for each individual player.
The Spaniard joins Newcastle United from Hull City, where he held a similar role for a number of years.
Daniel Marti, also from Spain, joins the Club as first team physiotherapist. Daniel has worked in the UK for 11 years, running his own private physiotherapy practice, and has provided expert consultancy for Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United. He will work alongside the Club’s existing physiotherapy team in the treatment room and gymnasium.
“I’m very pleased to welcome Cristian and Daniel to the team,” said Dr Paul Catterson.
“They bring significant experience and skills to the Club which I’m confident will enhance the work of our department and, together, will help us better manage the treatment and rehabilitation of players from injury.”
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez added: “In speaking with Lee Charnley and Paul we all agree that the injury record here is something we can improve on, with the right mix of staff and resources.
“It is really important that we get it right this season because the Championship schedule is very tough and the style of play is very demanding also.
“Cristian and Daniel will add to the good staff we have already here and I hope we will be able to improve the injury situation this season and into the future.”
