Nissan Lends its Support to National Charity Challenge

Nissan has lent its support — and an all-purpose Nissan Navara pick-up truck — to a nationwide challenge raising money and awareness for cancer patients.

Brian Burnie, the founder of the Newcastle-based Daft As A Brush Cancer Patient Care, is walking the 7,000 miles of Britain’s coastal paths to highlight the travel challenges faced by cancer patients as they receive treatment.

The challenge, which started earlier in March, will take two years for Brian to complete, but to him it’s a small sacrifice.

He said: “Our team of 350 volunteer staff and fleet of 26 ambulances were responsible for more than 40,000 patient journeys to and from hospital last year. But while most may think that’s a large number, it’s barely scratching the surface — and in other areas of the country things are even worse.

“We hope that by taking part in this walk we will raise awareness and vital funds to help cancer patients get to and from appointments and concentrate on getting well.”

For the trip, Brian will be accompanied by a fully equipped double decker bus and a brightly liveried Nissan Navara, loaned by the brand and delivered by Lookers Nissan in Gateshead.

Iker Lazzari, Nissan Fleet Director, said: “Nissan is delighted to be able to support Brian and the Daft As A Brush team as they take on this important and epic challenge.”
