No more baking for chef Nathan

Screen Shot 2016-05-12 at 10.24.36ON A ROLL SANDWICH COMPANY has further strengthened its product innovation team with the introduction of New Product Development Chef Nathan Baker.

The 29-year old, from Billingham, brings with him a wealth of experience and a whole host of new and tasty concoctions to the already inventive food-to-go manufacturer.

Nathan has previously been involved in the setup of Chadwick and Co Coffee House and Kitchen at the recently opened Barker and Stonehouse Teesside Park Store.  As well as supporting Michelin star restaurant in London and a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant in York.

Nathan said: “Its great to diversify and get to grips with a completely different industry. Obviously I’ve never specifically looked at the manufacture of sandwiches and there’s so much more to consider when developing products rather than plated meals in restaurants.

“As a chef you make food to taste good, and although ingredient amounts and ordering do play a small part, this is nothing compared to ensuring exact measures and maintaining the quality and quantity in every sandwich.

“It’s definitely something I’m getting my head around and it has allowed me to be really creative in looking at the current lines that On a Roll manufacture, as well as looking at how we can further develop the tastes and ingredients for customer enjoyment.”

James Stoddart, Managing Director of the company, approached Nathan after he made the decision to leave his former employer.

Nathan added: “I knew this was definitely going to be a welcome challenge. From working to maintain an AA 3 rosette at a restaurant in Leeds, or Michelin Bib Gourmand in York to evaluating and creating full sandwich ranges, it is totally different, but I jumped at the opportunity. “

And James is delighted he did. With the upcoming British Sandwich Designer of the Year competition, On a Roll is well positioned for even more success.

James said: “Bringing Nathan onto the product development team has been brilliant. I’ve been running the company for seven years now, so it has been a while since my chef days creating new and innovative dishes.

“Nathan brings with him new practices, processes and mixtures of flavours that are really going to excite our customers.”

The company has gone from strength-to-strength over the last year. After completing the move to its purpose-built £3.6m factory, the company won North East Food Manufacturer of the Year at the Made in North East Awards where they will go on to compete in the National final in June.
