North-East based Luminous Group join Microsoft Mixed Reality Partner Program

Digital Technology pioneer Luminous Group has been accredited as a Microsoft Mixed Reality Partner.

Originally founded in the North East as Digital Surveys 30 years ago, Luminous Group has undergone major transformation in recent years, specialising in the delivery of 3D mapping, virtual, augmented and mixed reality solutions in a range of industries, including oil and gas, health and safety, training, food processing and warehouse logistics.

In 2016, it rebranded to Luminous Group to more accurately reflect its new services and now works with a range of industry leading organisations in those sectors.

Ben Bennett, managing director and founder of Luminous Group said: “Mixed reality has enormous growth potential in a wide range of commercial environments. We’re really excited to be at the forefront of it and working in partnership with Microsoft gives us the edge in helping realise that potential.”

“The Microsoft partnership program is the greatest validation that we’re pushing our business in the right direction and in partnership with Microsoft we can start to push even more boundaries of possibility.”

The partnership marks a stellar period for the VR, AR and MR specialist. Since the turn of the year, Luminous have partnered with the likes of PepsiCo to produce mixed reality solutions to help enhance their working capabilities.

The firm also received significant investment early this year from Mercia Technologies, a national investment group focused on the funding and scaling of innovative businesses with high growth potential.

Microsoft created the Mixed Reality Partner Program to ensure customers have a strong and varied base of partners to work with who are dedicated to building world-class mixed reality solutions.   Customers can therefore have confidence that these MRPP partners are able to work with them to support their digital transformation requirements across Microsoft HoloLens and mixed reality technologies.

Leila Martine, Product Director of Commercial Mixed Reality at Microsoft said, “We are delighted to have Luminous accredited as a Mixed Reality Partner. We are impressed with the Group’s vision for its RIVO platform, which we believe has ground-breaking and disruptive potential by providing mixed reality asset mapping tools across a variety of industries”.

RIVO uses the Inside Out tracking of the HoloLens headset combined with Luminous 3D mapping systems to draw up accurate information in real time, by tagging 3D objects into real-world locations.

This then has benefits with regards to fire safety training, risk management, facilities management and safety inspections allowing inspectors to match the data from the plans to the images shown through the HoloLens.
