EXPLAIN Market Research has shared valuable insights into what NHS organisations can learn from the NHS Staff Survey 2017. Amongst the findings from the survey is a decline in staff engagement, staff motivation at work and staff satisfaction with the quality of work and care that they are able to deliver.
Distributed to almost 1.1 million staff across 209 trusts, clinical commissioning groups and commissioning support units in England, the results of this survey will be monitored against previous years’ and will be used to inform local improvements in staff experience and well-being.
According to Kim Davis, managing director at Explain Market Research, “NHS organisations should maximise the opportunity to engage with staff to uncover meaningful and actionable insights, with a key focus on employee engagement and satisfaction.”
Kim continued: “The fact that the survey garnered an overall response rate of 45%, an increase on 2016/17 participation, highlights the fact that NHS employees want to be given the opportunity to share their views on a wide range of areas, including how to improve patient service and their own job satisfaction.
“This survey demonstrates the importance of market research; the return on investment from engaging with staff to interpret the feelings and behaviours behind the results will be measurable, teams will be more productive, there is likely to be increased collaboration and staff retention will increase.
“The NHS Staff Survey is the first step in uncovering insight; the decision to independently engage with employees on the results of the survey could be one of the most valuable marketing and human resource (HR) activities that the organisations undertake.”
Having worked with NHS organisations for over a decade on projects including complex service change consultations, public health behavioural change projects and research to understand behaviours linked to accessing services and new care models, Explain Market Research has developed a unique and relevant skillset pertaining to independent research and engagement within the health sector.
Explain understands the complex nature of the healthcare industry and works with businesses in the sector to mitigate challenges surrounding staff and customer engagement, having previously provided insight on how organisations can reach a seldom-heard and vulnerable audience.
