Nela Angelova, who studies animation at the University of Sunderland, has been given the opportunity to take her sketches to real life by Sound Mind and Body in Benton.
Dominic Bowser, senior personal trainer at the health and wellbeing centre, approached the university looking for a talented student to add fitness-themed artwork to the gym’s interior.
The new artwork carries the theme of fitness evolution, acting as an inspiration to gym-goers, with large wall murals interpreting the benefits that an active lifestyle can bring.
The 22-year-old, who was born in Bulgaria and moved to the UK two years ago, worked with Dominic and the team and Sound Mind and Body to bring their vision to life.
Dominic said: “I was instantly impressed with how well Nela understood my vision for the pieces of artwork. Nela is such a talented young artist and we’re very pleased with the new additions to our walls. Her creativity and passion really come through in abundance in her work.
“The artwork is proving to be a real talking point amongst our members, with one lady being so impressed, she’s even asked Nela to work on a piece in her own home”
Nela added: “To be given the opportunity to work on my first real life project was really exciting. Taking my sketches from paper onto a wall for the first time was such a great experience and a real achievement for me.
“I’m so pleased with the positive reaction my work has had from both Dominic and the gym’s members. I’ve benefitted so much as an artist from having this opportunity and it’s great to hear all of the lovely feedback.”
