North East rural professionals to explore opportunities for growth

An exciting line-up of land, legal, housing and agricultural experts will provide essential updates on the latest rural land developments in the North East and opportunities for growth in the region, at this year’s RICS Rural Conference, taking place in Hexham on 06 October.

The annual conference – which attracts rural land professionals from all over the North of England – aims to give those in the industry the opportunity to debate industry challenges and learn and about potential solutions which will help their businesses thrive.

Expert speakers include, Darren Yates, Head of Research at Carter Jonas who will discuss the impact of Brexit on the rural land market and the future outlook. John McLarty, Partner and Head of Planning at Strutt & Parker will speak about theHousing and Planning Act and how it affects the rural economy, and Hugh Taylor, CEO at Roadnight Taylor will provide a rural energy update.

Other speakers include Charles Morgan, Barrister at 4 – 5 Gray’s Inn Square who will provide a legal update around rural property issues, and Bruce Keith, President of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management, who will discuss how the industry must respond to the increasing demand for water. Meanwhile, both Alison Rickett, Managing Director at Fresh Start Land Enterprise and John Henderson of Henderson Farms will talk about Share Farming and how it works.

Chair of the RICS North East Land Group, David Coulson, Partner at Addisons Chartered Surveyors will chair the annual conference. He said: “At a time when uncertainty is weighing on the market, our annual conference will help equip our region’s rural professionals with the knowledge to tackle challenges facing their business, and that of their clients, and where possible, grow or develop their business further.”
