Leading North East social media company, Monumental Communications is expanding creating more jobs in the region.

Newcastle based social media marketing specialists, Monumental Communications are taking on new staff as the digital company continues to work towards expansion.

The company already works with some of the region’s biggest companies, from Sunderland football club to Pattinson’s Estates Agents.

The company’s young founders build the digital communication agency after seeing an opportunity to get ahead of a rapidly changing online industry.

“We saw a huge gap in the online market with people spending more and more time online and on social media, but companies just not effectively reaching them. That’s where we make a difference, connecting brands directly to their target consumers.” said Lewis Bruford, Managing Director and one of Monumental’s co-founders.

The company specialises in social media, digital PR and online communications strategy, a market Lewis says for too long has been dominated by London and Manchester.

“When we got started last year the digital sector was dominated by London and Manchester. We are proud to be a North-East company now delivering cutting edge digital communication right here in the region. The growth we have seen has been phenomenal. The new jobs we are creating is just to help us keep up with demand.”

As the company has grown, the digital market has continued to move quickly and even the days of twitter may be numbered says Lewis.

“It may be too soon to say Twitter’s days are numbered but it is certainly struggling. Twitter successfully attracted influential users, but it has struggled to become a platform with real penetration like Facebook. Many traditional PR firms still just push their clients onto twitter and call it a digital strategy. Those days are long gone. Right now, Snapchat is the fastest growing social platform, with over 10m users in the UK and despite what people think, 77 per cent of those users are over 18. The industry is constantly changing.”

Twitter announced last week plans to close its video sharing network Vine, as well as laying off 9 per cent of its staff worldwide in a move to reverse its declining fortunes.

Monumental, however, continues to go from strength to strength as part of RBS’s

Entrepreneurial Spark programme, the world’s largest free business accelerator for early stage and growing ventures.
