Nunthorpe and Marton Knitters Set 10K Target

TEN thousand is the target for the nifty knitters of Nunthorpe and Marton.

That’s the aim of their 2017 poppy knitting and crochet campaign – and their fleet- fingered fundraising has been given a boost by Boyes of Coulby Newham.

The popular department store is ensuring they have enough wool for their record- breaking attempt which will see the hand-made poppies on display at the War Memorial and other parts of Nunthorpe.

Middlesbrough’s new Fork in the Road is hosting World Public Knitting Day from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, June 10, with the Nunthorpe and Marton Knitters on hand to launch their own 2017 poppy knitting campaign.

Boyes Coulby Newham will also feature its very own ‘Pop-up Knitting Corner’ on June 10.

Event organiser Brenda Thompson said: “Due to the generosity of Boyes, Nunthorpe Parish Council and NE Homes there will be enough wool to meet this target.

“We’re calling on people of all ages and abilities are urged to come along and take part – every poppy counts!”
