Screen Shot 2015-10-26 at 10.39.27Following a period of high growth, leading North East-based rapid tooling and plastic injection moulding manufacturer, Omega Plastics, has appointed Megan Carr to its marketing team.

The Teesside University Business Management graduate will support marketing manager, Jonathan Galloway, a fellow Teesside University Alumni, to deliver the company’s advertising, PR and digital marketing activities for its sites in Blyth and Hartlepool.

Omega Plastics has carved an enviable reputation as a UK market leader in rapid tooling and plastic injection moulding, providing product development and manufacturing services to the automotive, defence, medical, and personal care industries.

Megan, 23, who lives in Hartlepool, explained: “I’m very excited to join the team at Omega Plastics, especially so early in my career. They’re a very progressive company operating in a fast-paced marketplace.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to draw on my creativity and turn marketing theory into practice by helping to develop meaningful strategies that will contribute to the success of the business.”

Established in the UK in 1998, the company began operating as an offshoot from Omega Plastics in the USA, a company that was the first to introduce many of the techniques that are today considered standard in many rapid tooling facilities in Europe.

Today, Omega Plastics employs more than 50 staff across its sites in Northumberland and Teesside. During 2015 the UK workforce has risen by 11 across departments including, tool making, moulding, quality, operations, design, sales and finance.  This is expected to increase further by the end of the year.

Regarding Megan’s appointment, Jonathan Galloway, marketing manager at Omega Plastics, said: “Megan joins the team at an important time for the business, our customer base is growing exponentially as we establish ourselves as a primary supplier in the rapid tooling and injection moulding industry across Europe.”

“It’s a great opportunity for Megan to bring her marketing expertise to bear on building brand awareness and developing customer relationships.”

In her new role as marketing assistant, Megan is also responsible for overseeing the delivery of the company’s extensive corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy.  She’s already returned to Teesside University to deliver a lecture to current Business Management students on digital marketing.

“I really enjoy the CSR element of my role here,” adds Megan.

“Omega Plastics is extremely proactive in developing relationships in the communities it operates and believes in educating young people, like myself, about the wealth of job opportunities in the industry.

“As part of its educational outreach programme the company works closely with Teesside University, so it was a huge honour and incredibly rewarding when they encouraged me to return there to share my experience and provide some real-life industry insights to final year students on their digital marketing assignments.”

Dawn McCarthy, digital marketing lecturer at the University of Teesside, said: “It’s great to continue working with Jonathan and Megan who have visited the University as guest lecturers on a number of occasions.

“The sessions are always well received and provide students with the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge to a real world business and see first-hand what digital marketing tools and techniques are used and the challenges faced on a daily basis.

“The students enjoy learning in this way and they benefit not only academically but also from networking with Jonathan and Megan to aid their future employability. Omega Plastics are a regular booking for me when planning the module and I look forward to welcoming them again next year.”
