One billion trees and counting: BSW launches CarbonStore – a new carbon trading and offsetting service

BSW Group, the UK’s largest integrated forestry management group, has launched a new carbon trading and offsetting service.

An extension of BSW Group member Tilhill – who have planted over one billion trees since 1948 – CarbonStore helps businesses, landowners, and individuals to create a cleaner, greener low-carbon economy. The business unites those who are looking to sell Woodland Carbon units with companies that are keen to offset their carbon emissions.

CarbonStore will bring professionalism, transparency and many years of experience in woodland creation to the woodland carbon market, helping to create and nurture the very best woodlands that we will maximise the benefits for both companies and landowners.

Also in partnership with CarbonStore are Maelor Forest Nurseries, the UK’s most progressive commercial tree nursery with over 70 years of experience in creating and growing new woodlands, and another member of the BSW Group. Tilhill and Maelor will grow the tree seeds, design the new woodland creation schemes, plant the saplings, manage the trees, and sell the carbon units.

CarbonStore will also offer landowners an online marketplace from which to openly market their woodland carbon, enabling them to secure an equitable price for their woodland carbon that is potentially free of charges too. This offers market-leading value for landowners while also securing an honest price for companies, helping them to maximise the virtues of their carbon offsetting ambitions.

The CarbonStore team has powerful credentials and is in an unrivalled position to advise and guide our clients, in the most open and honest manner, on all woodland-generated carbon matters. Our experience enables us to deliver viable, credible schemes, ensuring that your carbon offsetting journey will be smooth and enjoyable from start to finish.

The CarbonStore team is led by David McCulloch who has a BSc (Hons) in Accounting, Finance and Economics, and 18 years’ experience in the financial sector based in London and Tokyo, initially as an equity salesman and latterly as a corporate analyst. Opportunities within Tilhill and now CarbonStore have enabled David to return to his rural roots in southern Scotland.

David is supported by Andy Baker MICFor, who has a BSc (Hons) in Ecology and Environmental Science. He gained his wide-ranging forestry experience within Tilhill, with carbon sequestration having been the driver of his forestry career, and also represents the Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF) on the Woodland Carbon Code Advisory Board.
