Registering is quick and easy to do. It can be done online at www.gov.uk/registertovote or by calling the Registration Helpline on 01642 526196. Residents will need their date of birth and National Insurance number to hand.
For those unable to go to a polling station on 7 May, the following deadlines apply:
- Applying to vote by post – Tuesday 21 April – 5pm
- Applying to vote by postal proxy – Tuesday 21 April – 5pm
- Applying to vote by proxy – Tuesday 28 April – 5pm
The Council is again recommending that people act today rather than delay until closer to the deadlines.
Margaret Waggott, Head of Democratic Services at Stockton Council, said: “Your vote is your voice, so make sure it is heard in May.
“If you are not registered, you cannot vote. Therefore I would urge anyone who is not registered, to do it today. Your vote matters, so please make sure you’re in.”
If you have a disability and require help to register to vote or you know somebody who is disabled and needs assistance to register – call the Voter Registration Helpline on 01642 526196.
