People can get ‘digital, digital’ at free course

Capture9Residents across County Durham are being invited to a free course that helps people to brush up on their online skills.

‘Time to get online’ offers a training programme though a County Durham Housing Group, Dale & Valley Homes, Durham City Homes, East Durham Homes and Teesdale Housing Association partnership, and aims to raise awareness of the benefits of digital technology and show people that the internet is not as daunting as it may appear.

The next interactive sessions, on Wednesday, 14 and 21 October between 2pm and 4pm at Shotton IT Centre, will team attendees up with a designated ‘Digital Champion’, who will highlight the basics of the online world in an informal setting.

By signing up participants will see the advantages the internet offers, including keeping in touch with friends and family, looking for a new job, saving money and much more.

Vickie Musgrove, Digital Inclusion Project Co-ordinator, said: “Our society is constantly evolving and is more and more placed within a digital platform, and with the introduction of Universal Credit in Durham, it’s more important than ever that we help people get to grips with online technology.

“Our events show that computers and the web are nothing to be afraid of, and the benefits in all aspects of life are endless.”
