Housing provider Thirteen is asking local people and organisations to take part in a special event to help improve the Dodford estate in the Hemlington area of Middlesbrough.
Together with Groundwork, JDDK architects and Middlesbrough Council, Thirteen is running a consultation event to understand the type of improvements that people think are needed in the neighbourhood.
The event will gather the opinions and ideas of people who live and work on the Dodford estate about a range of issues, including what people like about the area, the problems it faces and ideas for improvement.
Chris Smith, executive director of service delivery and development at Thirteen, said: “This is a major project that will address important issues in the Dodford estate which could also have implications for people living in other areas of Hemlington.
“Parts of the estate currently suffer from incidents of anti-social behaviour, and problems with the design of the estate have been highlighted as being possible contributory factors to the issue.
“This project will enable us to work in partnership to investigate and tackle the problems in the area, allowing us to implement actions such as building works or environmental improvements.
“People who live on the estate are the ones who know the area best, so it’s vital that they contribute their thoughts and ideas to the plans.
“The consultation event is a great opportunity to involve local people to make real changes and we’re urging as many residents as possible to get involved.”
The Dodford regeneration scheme is part of a pilot masterplan project to bring about environmental, infrastructure and social changes in the area.
The aim of the masterplan is to investigate the underlying causes of anti-social behaviour and the impact it has on local populations and make suggestions for action that will significantly improve conditions for residents and prevent a decline in the estate.
Thirteen’s neighbourhood co-ordinators will also be out and about on the Dodford estate, visiting residents in their homes and asking them to complete a survey to gain their opinions about possible actions needed in the area.
People and organisations who live and work on the Dodford estate are being invited to attend the consultation event on Tuesday 19 February from 11am till 3pm at the Dodford Community Centre, Dodford Road, Hemlington, TS8 9JD.
There will be a free lunch for attendees, face painting, arts and crafts, and a prize draw with a tablet computer and shopping vouchers to be won.
