Pirates read to invade Redcar Races

Ahoy there me hearties! Redcar Racecourse is all shipshape for its annual Caribbean Carnival Day on Saturday.

The Jolly Roger will be hoisted at the popular seaside course for 7 races combined with lashings of family fun.

Pirates will be telling stories of life on the high seas and teaching pirate chants to young landlubbers. Children and adults can also enter a Caribbean Fancy Dress Competition – in either a pirate costume or a grass skirt!

Entrance to the Course Enclosure costs £6 (£5 for senior citizens). Entrance to the Grandstand is £16 (£13 for senior citizens). Gates open at 11.30am, with the first race at 1.30pm.

Picnics with a limited amount of alcohol (four cans of beer/half a bottle of wine per person) are welcome in the Course Enclosure but BBQs and gazebos should be left at home.

General manager Amy Fair said: “Caribbean Carnival Day is always popular with families because it has such a feel-good atmosphere – come and join in the fun.”
