Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 12 to Sunday 18 December 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 9 December but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. From Monday 12 to Friday 16 December there will be a partial closure of Scotch Corner Interchange with a southbound closure at junction 56. Then on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 December there will be a southbound closure between junction 56 and Scotch Corner. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. This project is due for completion by summer 2017.

A1 Blaydon Haugh Viaduct, Newcastle upon Tyne

There is a 50mph limit in operation over Blaydon Haugh Viaduct due to the installation of temporary plates over defective viaduct joints. There will be weekly night time northbound closures to monitor and maintain the bridging plates. On Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 December there will be a carriageway closure southbound between 10pm and 6am, and on Wednesday 14 December there will be a carriageway closure northbound between 8pm and 6am. Both closures will have a diversion in place.

A1 junctions 68 to 69, Newcastle Gateshead Western Bypass

There will be a daytime lane closure on the northbound dedicated slip road for maintenance work. This will take place until Thursday 22 December between 10am and 3pm.

A1 Morpeth, Northumberland

There will be work ongoing until spring 2017 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place. There will also be a 24 hour lane closure in place north and southbound until the project is completed.

A1 Haggerston, Northumberland

There will be traffic signals in place north and southbound for resurfacing work, taking place from Tuesday 13 to Saturday 17 December between 8pm and 6am.

A1 West Cawledge, Northumberland

There will be a lane closure southbound for resurfacing work, taking place on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 December between 8am and 4pm.

A1 Detchant, Northumberland

There will be convoy working in operation north and southbound for resurfacing work. This will take place from Monday 12 to Wednesday 21 December between 8pm and 6am.

A194M junctions 1 to 3, South Tyneside

There will be phases of lane closure southbound for survey work. This will take place until Thursday 22 December between 8am and 4pm.

A1M junctions 61 to 63, County Durham

There will be a carriageway closure southbound on Monday 12 December for resurfacing work, taking place between 8pm and 6am with a diversion in place.

The A1058 will be closed from Monday 12 December for 5 nights between 8pm and 6am for interchange improvement work. There will also be a 24 hour 30mph speed restriction with narrow lanes. On Thursday 15 and Friday 16 December there will be a carriageway closure on the A19 north and southbound between Silverlink and Tyne Tunnel between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place.

A66 Cumbrian Border to Spittal Farm, County Durham

There will be a lane closure westbound for survey work, taking place on Monday 12 December between 8.30am and 3.30pm.

A66M junction 57 to Blackwell, County Durham

There will be a lane closure southbound for survey work. This will take place on Monday 12 December between 9am and 4pm.
