Printing firm doubles investment in technology for growth

NORTH EAST independent printing firm Large Print Works has boosted its capacity to take on large scale projects as well as significantly ramping up production with a near-quarter-million pound double investment in two of the industry’s most technologically advanced printers.

The Ouseburn-based business has installed the Océ Arizona 6170 XTS which will open up larger volumes, faster turnaround times and slash ink consumption by a third, and precedes the arrival of the second printer in July – the Canon Océ Colorado 1650 with which Large Print Works will be one of the first printing companies in the UK to install the new model since its announcement at Fespa Print Expo in Munich last month.

Large Print Works will invest circa £230,000 in the printing duo and will support the business’s plans to increase its turnover by 25% across 2019.

Managing director John Laidler believes it is vital to invest in the latest innovative technology in order to grow the business and create more job opportunities, in line with plans to expand into larger markets as well as being more efficient for existing customers.

He said: “Many printers are well-acquainted with the idea that they must adopt new technology to survive and stay ahead of the competition. We have invested in the most technologically advanced equipment available in the market at present to become even more competitive, as well as enhancing our quality and furthering our reputation for delivering outstanding service and value to every client.

“Everyone wants everything at the last minute these days and, with our previous machine, we could not cope with that. We would be turning around on average 30 panels a day, but the new machine means we can start producing up to 200 a day.

“Our ambition across the business now is to expand our offering, build relationships with new partners and prospects as well as being more efficient for our existing customers. We want to show how our machines can help a client’s brand fuel emotion in print and increase their profits.”

Established in 1988, Large Print Works (formerly The Rip) has continuously developed and expanded its offerings specialising in large format printing and operates out of a 4000 sq. ft. facility specifically designed for printing brand advertising materials.

Its customers include local councils, North East businesses, universities, museums and design agencies amongst others and specialises in printing on materials including Foamex, posters, digital wallpaper, banner stands, exhibition displays indoor and outdoor billboards, and building hoarding panels.
