Professional boost for Wilton Centre psychotherapist

Screen Shot 2016-01-21 at 14.10.01The coming year is set to be an exciting time for the Wilton Centre’s resident professional psychotherapist.

Sharon McMahon has been resident in the Centre near Redcar for over a year now and is set to spend more time here in the future, having successfully completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapy.

The course involved two years of hard work including several days each month spent at training modules, away from the office.  Qualifying means she can be called a Psychotherapist and put ‘Dip Psych’ behind her name.

The qualification brings together the various strands of therapies – Counselling, NLP Psychotherapy Clinical Hypnotherapy and CBT – most of which Sharon has offered for almost two decades, CBT being a more recent addition.

The next challenge for Sharon is to apply for accreditation which is an important part of the protocol for registration with the UK Council for Psychotherapy.

Sharon commented: “Although there is no more formal learning, becoming accredited is seen as the Gold Standard within the profession.

“From a client’s point of view, choosing an accredited psychotherapist is one way of selecting a safe pair of hands. Meanwhile, I will continue to offer free initial consultations, so no-one needs to commit until they feel entirely comfortable that we can work well together.”

Sharon added that Wilton Centre is proving a good place to be based.  “I spend up to four days a week here and have a range of private and corporate clients, from within the Centre and beyond.

“The Reception staff deserve special mention for the professional and discreet welcome they provide to clients arriving from outside the Centre.”
