Putting heads together for positive results

Last week, on Tuesday 20th June,  over 90 Headteachers and other education professionals gathered at The Fuse Media Centre, Prudhoe for the 2017 Northumberland County Council Headteachers’ Summer Conference.

A packed auditorium saw Andy Johnson,  Interim Director of Children’s Services at Northumberland County Council, welcome those in attendance, and introduce a short presentation which highlighted the way forward for schools across Northumberland.

Workshops throughout the day were tailored to the headteacher’s requirements and covered areas as diverse as the Primary Assessment and Progress,  Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, key developments in Numeracy and Literacy, support for Vulnerable Learners and Preparing for Ofsted.

A final keynote address highlighted some of the challenges facing schools in Northumberland, and how the Council can support schools in meeting these challenges.

Andy Johnson, said: ‘We had a fantastic turnout at the conference.  We work closely with our headteachers across the county and these termly conferences provide us with the perfect opportunity to share ideas and best practice.”

Cllr Wayne Daley, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Children’s Services at Northumberland County Council said: ‘We are committed to delivering the best possible education for our young people across Northumberland.  Our headteachers help us to deliver this, so by working closely with them we can ensure they have the information and support they need.”
