RAF Flight Sergeant leads team of 10 at Total Warrior

RAF Flight Sergeant Chris Plumb is joining hundreds of other fitness fanatics taking part in Total Warrior Leeds on 24 June. Chris, from RAF Leeming, is leading a team of 10 who hope to raise £1,500 for the RAF Benevolent Fund, the RAF’s leading welfare charity.

The 37-year-old Air Traffic Control Officer, who has been in the RAF for 16 years, is one of thousands of RAF Benevolent Fund supporters going above and beyond for the charity in the RAF’s 100th year.

Chris explains: “I’ve completed the Total Warrior Leeds course once before, so know only too well the challenge ahead. But my reason for taking it on again and choosing to support the RAF Benevolent Fund is simple: they do some amazing work supporting RAF personnel and their families through all kinds of issues.

“They assist with welfare breaks, grants to help with financial difficulty and getting about inside and outside the home, specialist advice on benefits and support with care needs, as well as support for young people through their Airplay programme. I wanted to raise money for a worthy cause as it keeps me motivated, and the Fund is certainly worthy, undertaking tremendous work in assisting RAF personnel past and present.”

Mark Quinn, Regional Director for the RAF Benevolent Fund, said: “What a feat from Chris and the team! It’s an exceptionally difficult course that everyone is putting themselves through, and that they are doing so in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund is very humbling. Being in the RAF himself, Chris fully understands the support we offer people like him in the RAF Family – for him to want to give something back is truly brilliant. Thank you so much Chris, your efforts make a huge difference to the help we are able to give to our deserving beneficiaries.”

In the last two years the RAF Benevolent Fund has spent more than £369,000 supporting RAF personnel based at RAF Leeming and their families. This includes support through free relationship counselling sessions with Relate, funding for youth programmes like Airplay and Ben Clubs, as well as individual grants to serving men and women in need.

Chris and his team, including brother Mark who serves in the RAF Regiment, will have to conquer the 12.5km course and overcome over 25 obstacles. To support them in their endeavours, please visit https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/RAFBF-Totalwarrior-Chris.
