Real life Iron Man raising money for Tiny Lives

Fitness fanatic sets himself the ultimate challenge to raise money for premature and sick newborn babies.

Teacher and Triathlon Coach, Matt Turnbull, will be putting his mental and physical strength to the test when he attempts to complete 7 Iron Man challenges in 7 days.

The week commencing 17th July will see Matt face a whopping 784 miles of cycling alongside 16.8 miles of swimming and 183.4 miles of running, all in the name of charity, Tiny Lives.

Matt will be completing triathlons around Hartlepool and Seaton Carew before finishing the week by competing in the Outlaw Triathlon which takes place at The National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.

However, the completion of 7 Iron Man triathlons in 7 days isn’t Matt’s only challenge, as he has also set himself the task of raising £10,000 for Tiny Lives.

Tiny Lives is based in Newcastle’s RVI Neonatal Unit and helps care for premature and sick newborn babies. The charity aims to raise around £250,000 a year so that they can acquire necessary equipment and care for the babies and their families.

The father of two also explained another incentive behind the challenge being his desire to teach his sons, Dylan and Ben, to believe that they can achieve anything they set their minds to. His personal motto is “if your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough”, which explains his determination to conquer the risk of injury and the dangers of open water to reach his goal.

The cause has attracted attention from many different sponsors including Aqua Sphere, who have provided Matt with top of the range swimming equipment, and One Step Beyond Events, amongst others. Matt has also set up a Just Giving page to receive donations and sponsorship from the public.
