Redcar MP’s music night boosts funds for young carers charity

Labour MP for Redcar, Anna Turley, has celebrated a brilliant year raising money for young carers charity the Junction.

The charity, based on Station Road in Redcar, have been Anna’s charity of the year for 2017-18. They provide personalised support to vulnerable young people and to young carers, helping them to overcome personal challenges like mental health issues, unemployment, money and debt issues, homelessness, substance misuse.

On Friday 25th May, Anna and local rock group The Fire, were joined at Eston Labour Club by local residents, Junction staff, and young carers to raise money and celebrate the great work the Junction do.

The evening, along with other fundraising throughout the year, has raised a total of £1825 in support of the Junction.

Speaking after the event, Anna said:

“We had a brilliant evening at Eston Labour Club and I want to thank everyone who came along to support it, including the Fire who played a fantastic set, all of the local businesses who donated raffle prizes, and everyone who bought tickets.

“I have been proud to support the Junction because of the amazing work they do, especially with young carers who are a shining example of care and compassion in the next generation. Whilst their peers are enjoying growing up, they have the added responsibility of looking after family members and support from the Junction makes that job a little easier.”

Acting Chief Executive of The Junction, Jamie Noble, said:

“The support from Anna has been fantastic, not only in terms of money raised but also highlighting The Junction’s cause and some of the issues faced by our young people. Sometimes life can be hard for our children and young people and they don’t know which way to turn. The Junction aims to be a force for good helping young people discover what they have to offer and reach their true potential. We can’t thank Anna enough for her support over the past year.”
