Resurfacing work to take place across County Durham

Road resurfacing work is to take place at a number of locations around County Durham over the coming weeks.

The road will be shut from the junction with the A167 to the junction into North End House. A short stretch of Fieldhouse Lane will also be closed.

A signposted diversion will be in place, taking motorists from the A167 northwards to Sniperley roundabout and then south east on the A691 Southfield Way to the County Hall roundabout.

There will be a diversion from the A68/A689 Harperley roundabout south easterly to Howden-le-Wear and then north on the A689 to Crook.

On Thursday, 10 August, work will concentrate on the junction with the A691 Durham Road. Traffic will be diverted via Front Street.

On Friday, 11 and Saturday, 12 August, Station Road will be closed from the A691 Durham Road junction to the junction with the B6296 and B6301. Traffic will be diverted via either Langley Park or Hurbeck Cottages.

The final phase of the work will take place on Sunday, 13 August, when a short section of Front Street to the junction with Station Road will be closed. There will be a diversion along Front Street and the A691.

Traffic will be diverted from the south end of the closure, north westerly via the A692 and then easterly on the C10a Durham Road/Front Street and north easterly via the A692 then westerly on the C10a St Ives Road.

There will be a diversion via the A68 to West Auckland, the A689 to Crook and the A68 Harperley roundabout.

John Reed, Durham County Council’s head of technical services, said: “We appreciate that these works, which are part of our ongoing programme to maintain the county’s road network, may cause some disruption for motorists.

“We have planned schemes to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum, with overnight working in some areas, but would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience.”
