The gruelling challenge will take in some of the toughest terrains in Yorkshire, including the Stang, Fleet Moss and Buttertubs Pass as well as sections from this year’s Tour de Yorkshire which will include over 15,000 feet of climbing.

Eleven staff will be attempting to cycle 200 miles in just 24 hours to raise money for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund at Leeds Congenital Heart Unit.

The team will be setting off at 4am on Sunday July 26th from Rockliffe Hall.

The Rockliffe Hall ‘riders’ have taken on the challenge in memory of a team member’s nephew who tragically passed away at just five weeks old after being born with a heart condition. All of the money raised will be used to secure additional equipment for the heart unit at the specialist centre in Leeds where he received treatment.

The cycle challenge is being sponsored by GRN Bikewear, which has provided Rockliffe Hall-branded clothing for the team. GRN produces ethically-sourced and sustainable bikewear, all manufactured in the UK using materials such as bamboo, recycled fishing nets and plastic bottles, and is now available to buy from Rockliffe Hall’s Spa Boutique and Pro Shop.

In addition, Northumberland-based spring water suppliers, Marlish Waters, are providing all of the water for the challenge.

Staff from a variety of departments at Rockliffe Hall will be taking part including executive chef, Richard Allen, and chief executive, Eamonn Elliott. In addition to the eleven cyclists, five further team members will be providing support vehicles and one of the spa practitioners will be providing massages en route.

Eamonn said: “This cause is one that is really important to many of our team and provides such amazing support. The route we’re cycling is gruelling and will be a tough test of mental and physical strength and stamina. We’ve all trained hard and are cautiously optimistic that we’ll get the job done.”
