A lot has changed over the past three years for South Shields’ singer-songwriter Sam Clark as he prepares to release his new single, Run Away Girl.
Back in late 2016, early 2017, as a member of The Waiters/Call On Sunday, they were on the verge of being signed, but fate took a differing turn and, come 2018, the band were no more, with only Sam taking the plunge and continuing to pursue a career in music.
Far from being fazed Sam has taken the transition in his stride, trying his hand at a number of differing genres, whilst also opening Café 42 in his home-town, and, having just turned 23-years-old last month, he’s got the world at his feet, and an increasing fan-base to match.
“Last year I gigged loads either on my own (with a guitar), or with session musicians,” began Sam.
“I’m so used to having others around me though when I’m on stage so it is nice to have others out there with me.
“But, I have a vision, still rather young, and looking at chasing the dream.”
Now, having fast-forwarded into the weirdness that has become 2020, Sam, and other musicians alike, continue their thirst for progression, success, to see what they can do with the talent with which they were given.
Alongside his new single (scheduled to be released on Wednesday 13th May), Sam is also looking forward to supporting Danny Wright on his UK tour later this year.
With a new single of his own just released, Danny Wright, with support of Sam Clark, are scheduled to take in dates in Glasgow, Newcastle, London and Manchester later this year, by which time Sam hopes to have had several new releases of his own behind him.
“That’s the plan for this year,” explained Sam.
“I really want to make a good go of it, and go hard as well whilst knowing in my heart that we can push this far.
“When I mentioned the tour, and the new single, the response was amazing, and it warms my heart that fans have stuck by me and are loving what I’m doing still.”
A sound which is akin to that of One Direction, Shawn Mendes and Ed Sheeran, Sam’s new single will certainly ease the mood of the nation, and set music lovers up for the magic that is still to come throughout the year, with hopes of an album in the not-too-distant future as well.
“I’ve tried different genres and I thank my fans for the support they gave me with that,” continued Sam.
“But this new single, it’s my sound, and the direction in which I want to take, where I’m heading.
“It’s setting the boundaries but it’s not really for me though, it’s for everyone and you’ll love it, love something which is a really strong, heart-warming, acoustic sound.”
