School fair offers a passport to the world

north_tyneside_councilEach year group at Whitehouse Primary School, from nursery right through Year 6, has been assigned a country and they have been busy researching its culture and history over the past week.

And on Monday (July 18), the school hall will be awash with colour, music and smells of different cuisines as the children showcase and celebrate their countries as they hold an international day.

From French crepes to Caribbean coconut biscuits, Spanish patatas bravas to Australian Anzac cakes, they’ll be plenty of delicious delicacies for them to try.

Songs from around the world will be performed by the school choir and the children will also enjoy games and arts and crafts themed around the different countries.

Headteacher Rachel Woods said: “We set the children a challenge to find out as much as they could about different countries – from Brazil to Italy, the Caribbean to as far away as Australia.

“They have really enjoyed planning all the multicultural activities and we’re really looking forward to this colourful and fun event on Monday.”

North Tyneside Elected Mayor, Norma Redfearn added: “It’s wonderful that the children have taken such an interest in the cultures and traditions of countries from all around the world.  With such enthusiasm, I’m sure it will be a brilliant event.”
