Northallerton Explorer Scout leaders help the Hambleton FoodShare each week by sorting and placing all the food donated in date order enabling a smoother running operation for the main store team.
Another team of volunteers then attend the Northallerton store unit to make up food parcels and transport them to the food bank which operates from the Zion United Reformed Church Hall, just off Northallerton High Street every Monday between 4 and 6pm.
“The scouts help is invaluable and they have also recently helped even more by erecting new storage shelves and re-organising the whole store which has made a huge difference to our other helpers who make up the parcels,” said Margaret Brice, FoodShare, Co-ordinator.
“We are open as normal every Monday over Christmas and eager to help those who find themselves in temporary financial crisis and unable to feed themselves and their families through no fault of their own.
“We do not want to see people struggle especially over the festive period and encourage them to come along to the food bank where we can provided them with a three-day emergency food parcel. Further parcels can be supplied but only with agency support which we can assist with appropriately.”
