A bespoke software consultancy has welcomed a new Head of Testing to lead the ongoing development of its testing operation.
Originally from Forest Gate in the Newham borough of east London, Laurence Pisani, 41, has taken up the newly-created role at Scott Logic, marking the significant expansion of the firm’s testing practice, after three-and-a-half years as an Associate Director at test consultancy Ten10, formerly The Test People.
Laurence, who will be based at Scott Logic’s Warwick Street office in Soho, London, will manage the company’s current 10-strong team of test engineers, who are distributed between its premises in Edinburgh, Newcastle upon Tyne and Bristol, and over time, plans to grow the team to include roles in London.
The appointment follows a number of recent steps taken by the growing organisation to cement its commitment to software testing and test driven development, including creating a software testing internship, a graduate test engineering programme and augmenting the team just last month by appointing an additional Lead Test Engineer.
Psychology graduate Laurence, who went to school in Scotland and studied at the University of Dundee said: “There has been lots to take in so far, but as a career test professional, my goal is to build a solid test practice within Scott Logic’s existing software development framework, as well as offer testing as a service in its own right.”
During his degree, Laurence focused on the interaction between humans and computers, and went on to focus on human factors testing as part of an MSc in Applied Computing, which he also completed at the University of Dundee. This led him into an IT career, initially on the graduate programme at IBM, before joining Accenture, where he spent several years.
He continued: “I am particularly interested in human factors testing; however I have experience of building and delivering testing frameworks and capabilities across a wide range of testing types, and into a wide range of industries.
“I was introduced to Scott Logic through a mutual friend of an existing team member, and heard lots of positive things that led me to believe the role would be a great fit for me, so I’m really pleased to be on board.”
Scott Logic’s General Manager Nigel Wilson added: “It‘s great to welcome another talented and experienced individual into the fold, and in particular to be expanding our test engineering community.
“Laurence has had a long and successful career in consultancy, initially in hands-on development and test roles and also test management. More recently Laurence was part of the team that founded Ten10’s London office, and he has a passion for delivering high quality solutions to his clients and their customers.
“We already have an established and highly successful user experience design practice, and I know Laurence also has a keen interest in where user experience design meets testing, so I’m particularly excited to see how this will come together at Scott Logic in the future.”
