Longbenton youngsters enjoyed a silver lining as they won second place in the Durham/Northumberland Wing Air Cadets Athletics Championships!
The youngsters, aged 12 – 19, competed across five age categories, with their Under 15 Boys, Under 17 Men and Junior Men teams winning bronze, silver and gold respectively. Overall, Team LB won silver after an exhausting exhibition on the field and track at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow.
Cadet Jess Dawson, 15, said: “It was really good to take part in the competition. We always aim to do our best in everything that we do and to have fun so we’re very happy to have won silver.”
Squadron boss, Flight Lieutenant Gary Richardson said; “We enjoy a varied Sports Development Programme by working with partner organisations to ensure that our young people become healthier, develop their positive attitude and improve their well-being.”
“Our recent successes are a true testament to what teamwork can achieve and I’m evermore proud of our young people and volunteers.”
The silver win comes after the Longbenton Squadron won gold in the Cross Country Championships. Last year, TeamLB won bronze overall.
