The production by The D Project on Wednesday (November 19) is a wintery fairy tale for families, featuring a dance performance set to the back drop of live music spun mystically by a solo fiddle.
As the mystery of an Irish winter unravels in the heart of Middlesbrough, traditional legends infuse this story of love, loss and families at Christmas.
Audiences can look forward to a performance with a difference, as the Town Hall Crypt is transformed into a mystical space where the fairy tale will unfold.
Solas Fae was created by dancer-choreographer Debbie Waistell with backing from Arts Council England, Creative Darlington and Middlesbrough Council.
Young dancers from Corpus Christi RC Primary School and Chandlers Ridge Academy will also benefit from workshops with the company in the run-up to Wednesday’s performance.
Debbie said “I am so happy to get the chance to make this show.
“I have been teaching dance to young people in the North East for the entirety of my career to date.
“Since developing The D Project I have been exploring creating performances for young people, taking them to new places and inspiring them.
“Solas Fae has enabled me to really push myself and work with a fantastic team of artists from across the country who have all contributed to bringing my ideas to life.”
Middlesbrough Council Arts, Events and Festival Officer Phil Douglas said: “Middlesbrough Town Hall is working hard to develop its family programme, and it’s fantastic when a local company creates such high quality work which we are able to support and share with our audiences.”
