Teesside Schools Sports Council’s (TSSC) annual awards evening recognises the talent and dedication of young athletes across Stockton, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland.
Youngsters from Stockton won three out of the four categories. Athlete Amy Carr of Egglescliffe School won disability sports personality of the year while swimmer and pentathlete Hannah Featherstone of Northfield School scooped female sports personality of the year. Team of the year went to Northfield under 16 Girls Table Tennis team. Jack Tennyson from Laurence Jackson School won male sports personality of the year.
British Olympic and Commonwealth gymnast Craig Heap presented the awards at the ceremony which took place at Northfield School and Sports College in Billingham.
Stockton Council works with Northfield School and Sports College and TSSC and its partners to ensure pupils from across the four boroughs can compete at district, county, regional or even national sporting events and competitions.
Councillor Ken Dixon, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “This annual sports awards evening is in recognition of the athletes’ hard work and ability to perform at a high standard as well as their dedication to their sport. Well done to all those young people who have excelled in their chosen sport and special congratulations to the award winners.”
