North East Connected

STAN show is no holiday camp

A well-established North-East band who have been together for more than 20 years, produced six albums, supported big names such as Big Country, The Christians, Brian May and a host of other A List artists are about to get the biggest break and exposure of their careers.

Newcastle blues and rock band STAN have already established themselves within the North-East music scene but now their talents have been recognised nationally.

The band will be playing at the renowned Great British Rock and Blues Festival at Butlin’s Skegness on the weekend of Friday 19th January.  Ironically however, despite their musical pedigree, the band will appear on the festival’s “Introducing Stage” where they will battle with other “newcomer” bands for a place in 2019 for a slot on the main stage.

Vocalist Colin Burrows who grew up on Stanhope Street in Newcastle’s west end hence the name STAN is delighted to be playing Butlin’s.

“We had to smile when we were told that we would be playing on the Introducing Stage even though we have six albums under our belt including a live one made in Newcastle. This is a great opportunity for the band to get a national audience and gain a few more fans.

“We’ll be bringing a mix of blues, power pop and rock to the festival and our slot is a good one on the Sunday between 5pm and 5.45pm.”

STAN will be in good company at the festival with headliners Dr Feelgood, Roger Chapman, Nazareth, Lucky Peterson and Atomic Rooster and a host of other popular artists.

STAN comprises accomplished musicians from the North-East scene with Colin Burrows vocalist / guitar, punk / jazz drummer Dave Pipkin, who brought the four of them together, bass player Rob Tickell and ex 21 Strangers guitarist Dave Kennedy (previously managed by the late Chas Chandler of The Animals).

The band have a busy month ahead of them before Butlin’s. Their seventh album is ready to record and they have a live show at the Cluny in Newcastle on 29th December where they will appear alongside George Shovelin and the Radars and surprise special guests.

Promoter; Trevor Reay from Hexham based Blue Attic Promotions was excited at the prospect of STAN playing in front of a new audience at Skegness.

“This is STAN’s biggest gig so far. It’s an incredible opportunity with the chance for them to leave a lasting impression on thousands of music fans. 2018 is going to be a big year for STAN.’
