Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) marks its eleventh anniversary with backing from schools, universities, local authorities, businesses and enterprise support groups.
GEW 2014 – under the theme of ‘Get Connected’ – runs from Monday, November 17 to Sunday, November 23, with the focus on providing access to practical support and networks for current and aspiring business people.
The campaign also attracts and engages high-profile entrepreneurs who are enthusiastic about sharing their personal experiences and insights to inspire others.
The annual event aims to develop an entrepreneurial culture in the UK, giving access to business start-up information, networking, mentoring and local funding.
Events in Middlesbrough as part of GEW 2014 include:
- Middlesbrough Business Forum’s next Breakfast Exchange from30am on Thursday, November 27. The free networking event – at La Pharmacie Restaurant on Corporation Road – is an opportunity for businesses to meet up on a less formal basis, chat, share, learn and do business.
The Breakfast Exchange helps them keep up to date with current issues, raise their profile in the regional business community and support the town’s on-going development.
This month’s event will also feature the popular ‘Business in the Spotlight’ feature, enabling businesses to hear first-hand from a local entrepreneur about their business experience.
- Businesses also have the opportunity to attend the Business Breakthrough programme at DigitalCity on Thursday, November 20, developed for those wanting to increase growth, productivity and profit.
The sessions, led by business expert Haani Ul Hasnain of Harmonised World, will be packed with information on everything from business mapping to personal development, and delegates will receive practical advice which is easy to follow and implement.
- Middlesbrough Central Library will be hosting a ‘business start-up cafe’ on the last Thursday of each month from 9.30am-12pm. Experts will be on hand to offer free advice to anyone interested in setting up their own business, as well as referral onto business support agencies, and interested entrepreneurs will also be able to use the library’s business resources, the Cobra and Keynote databases.
- A free two-day workshop at DigitalCity, Boho One, titled The Innovation Elevator, will be held on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28.
The Innovation Elevator is a programme of talks and workshops which gives practical tools, connections and energy to help grow your business. The programme is open to new and established businesses based in the North East of England. The Business Breakthrough programme will take place on November 20, January 14 and February 10 from 9am-5pm, at DigitalCity, Boho One.
