Councillor Dixon was officially installed at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Annual General Meeting yesterday (Wednesday 6 April) replacing Councillor Ian Dalgarno at the end of his mayoral year.
Councillor Dixon was born in Middlesbrough and lived in Thorntree and Thornaby before he settled in Ingleby Barwick where he has lived for the past 18 years. He was elected to represent Ingleby Barwick West ward in 2005.
Before retiring Councillor Dixon worked in front-line policing for 30 years before finishing his career as a Cleveland Police Community Sergeant.
He has been married to his wife, Linda for 30 years and has four children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Family life comes first for Councillor Dixon but when he has any spare time he can be found playing golf and listening to 60s music. He is an avid Middlesbrough Football Club fan and also loves to travel.
Councillor Dixon said: “I am really looking forward to my year in office. I want to speak up for Stockton-on-Tees and be an ambassador for the Borough. I’m eager to visit as many different places and meet as many people as possible.”
The Mayor’s charities for this year are Bowel Cancer UK, Meningitis Now and Butterwick Hospice.
This year’s Deputy Mayor is Councillor Maurice Perry who has represented the Fairfield ward since 2005.
The retiring Mayor, Councillor Ian Dalgarno, raised a total of £21,000 for charities in his mayoral year with the Butterwick Hospice, Daisy Chain and the Great North Air Ambulance Service among the main beneficiaries. He also raised £2,100 for the Borough’s three Armed Forces Freedom Regiments – 1 Close Support Battalion Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), The Yorkshire Regiment and The Rifles.
