A thriving North East company is celebrating after winning a national award on the back of achieving a 68% growth in turnover.
Storck Raddar UK, based in Gateshead, was awarded the ‘Specialist Distributor’ award at the BikeBiz Awards, beating out five other finalists.
The company, which was formed in 2010 by Ian Hughes, with his son, Trevor, joining in 2011, is a distributor of award-winning Storck products, after clinching an exclusive deal with the German-based brand in 2013.
Storck Raddar UK supplies carbon fibre road and mountain bikes, as well as cycling apparel and gear to its 33 specialist, independent bicycle stores throughout the UK.
Despite only trading for the past three years, the firm has experienced significant year-on-year growth, with a 68% increase in turnover from the same period last year.
Ian Hughes, managing director at Storck Raddar UK, said: “I am delighted that the company has been awarded with such a well-respected and prestigious industry award, in just a short period of time since Storck Raddar UK was formed. The award win really is the icing on the cake on what has been a successful period for the business.”
The award was presented at the Crown Plaza hotel, Birmingham ahead of the UK Cycle Show at Birmingham NEC.
Mr Hughes added: “We are proud of being situated in the North East as the region has a great deal to offer, especially with the rise of cycling after the success of last year’s Tour de France and the impact that it has had on people to get into the sport. I am now looking forward to building on this period of success and what the future holds for the company.”
