Students get ready to raid the Bridges

SUNDERLAND’s student shopping extravaganza returns next month (2 October) with special offers and discounts for students to splash their loans on.

On Monday 2 October, more than 35 shops will be slashing their prices for one night only, as part of the seventh annual student raid at the Bridges shopping centre, Sunderland.

And this year’s event, which aims to welcome both new and returning students to the city, is set to be the biggest yet – with freebies, giveaways and goody bags.

The Bridges has partnered with leading student discount provider UNiDAYS to promote the event – which runs from 6.30pm until late – and top stores, including River Island, Schuh and Topshop, will be offering 20 per cent off on the night.

As well as discounts, some stores will be giving away added incentives for shoppers. These include The Body Shop, which is giving away a free shower gel or body lotion with a £10 spend, free samples and complimentary hand massages, and Topshop – where makeup artists and hair stylists will be available in store.

A limited number of goody bags will also be provided with purchases at Waterstones, Footasylum, Fragrance Shop, Thorntons and Tiger.

Well-known comic strip characters will also be on hand to supply shopped-out students with free sweets, while those who drove to the Bridges can redeem their free parking pass by showing their student ID at the customer services desk.

Samantha Czwordon-Wright, marketing manager at the Bridges is delighted to see the event return in its seventh year.

“The student raid is always a really popular event and it gives us the chance to show both new and returning students the strong retail offering we have here.

“Once again, our brilliant retailers have really embraced the event and have come on board to offer incredible discounts and freebies for the region’s students.

“We’re also delighted to have a company of UNiDAYS’ calibre supporting this year’s student raid. They will be there on the night with their #UNiDAYSroadtrip VW van, offering students the chance to win a very special prize indeed.”

The event is free to attend but students must register beforehand by visiting the Bridges website
