SUBWAY Helping Hearts™ Family 5K series bounces back to Newcastle

The 5K series is bouncing back to Newcastle for the eighth of nine events taking place throughout the UK from May to September. The series is part of the SUBWAY® brand’s efforts to encourage families to live healthier and more active lifestyles together.

Families in the Newcastle region can join in on the fun at Town Moor on 4th September! All ages and levels of running expertise are invited to participate.

The 5K series takes a twist on the traditional 5K by including the “Field of Fresh” challenge for the last 500m before the finish line. Participants are encouraged to tackle the giant inflatable course, inspired by the SUBWAY® menu, which has been designed to appeal to kids (and big kids!). Those not wishing to bounce through to the finish line can follow the traditional 5K route.

The family fun doesn’t just end with that last 500m; families can also relax in the Family Village open from 10:30am – 2pm. This Family Village includes face-painting, music, more inflatable fun for children, and games for the whole family to enjoy.

Children under 12 years old can participate for free, and it’s just £7 for all other participants that register in advance online! All participants will receive a FREE T-Shirt, a FREE SUBWAY® lunch, a finisher’s medal and access to the Family Village! All funds raised will be donated directly to Heart Research UK and the SUBWAY® Healthy Heart grant scheme, an initiative providing up to £10,000 to local projects that actively promote heart health in the community.

The SUBWAY Helping Hearts™ Family 5K series really is helping hearts near you. They give families the opportunity to enjoy being active together which is great for their hearts.  The money raised will also pay for community-based Healthy Heart Grants that encourage people across the country to live healthier lifestyles.  Heart Research UK and the SUBWAY® brand, together, are helping people to live healthier, happier, longer lives.

Lucy Dee, National Marketing Director for the SUBWAY® brand, said about the series return “It is fantastic news to announce that the SUBWAY Helping Hearts™ Family 5K series has returned for 2016. We are building on the success of last year’s series and hope to encourage even more people to sign up this year and show their support for heart healthy causes in their local area. As a brand we remain committed to encouraging families to get active together and the family 5K events provide the perfect opportunity for them to do so.”

Barbara Harpham, National Director of HRUK commented “The charity partnership between Heart Research UK and the SUBWAY® brand has been the perfect way to raise awareness of the importance of heart health. Over 2.3 million people live with coronary heart disease every day and it is the UK’s single biggest killer.  The massive £728,000 raised has given 60 local organisations the opportunity to help their own communities with innovative Healthy Heart projects. Nearly 40,000 more people of all ages across the UK are aware of the importance of heart health and SUBWAY Helping Hearts™ Family 5K series is the perfect way to involve even more. The SUBWAY® brand has been a shining light in helping people live healthier, happier, longer lives.”
