A SUNDERLAND fire safety business has hit gold after being awarded the highest level of accreditation from the National Security Inspectorate (NSI).
MacDonald Martin Ltd, an expert in fire and electrical safety and security systems, secured the gold level of accreditation from the NSI – the leading body for security and fire protection industries.
The firm voluntarily underwent a rigorous review process to achieve the NACOSS gold award, which demands the highest possible industry standards. To be considered for the accreditation, businesses must uphold exceptional standards across the board – including quality management and by demonstrating technical know-how through British and European standards.
The win is the latest achievement for MacDonald Martin, which was recently awarded a lucrative new contract by Sheffield City Council. The contract, to provide fire risk assessments and fire equipment maintenance measures for over 400 buildings in the city, has also seen MacDonald Martin create a new engineer role in the firm, which currently employs 30.
The security side of the business has also seen major growth, after being added to complement fire safety services already offered, as arson remains the biggest cause of fire in the country. CCTV and door access systems are proven deterrents to arsonists, so these new offerings enable the company to offer an all-in-one fire and security solution to its clients. It has also opened up opportunities within the domestic market, with a large number of domestic crimes now being caught on CCTV and footage used to secure successful prosecutions.
Based on the Leechmere Industrial Estate, Sunderland, the business has a client portfolio that spans the country, including Gentoo, Sunderland City Council, City of York Council and Esh Facilities.
Andy Trafford, owner and director of MacDonald Martin said: “The gold level accreditation is the highest level that can be awarded, and because of that, it’s not the easiest to achieve. However, MacDonald Martin delivers the highest industry standards on every job, and the reason we are so successful is because we listen to clients’ needs and take the time to find out exactly what they want.
“The accreditation is something that the team and I are incredibly proud of.
“To come so soon after securing the contract with Sheffield City Council is amazing and sets the tone for a successful year. The contract will open a lot of doors, as will the new accreditation.”
The firm has gone from strength to strength since setting up in 2004, something ex fire-fighter Andy says is largely down to the business ethos and being family-run. The business prides itself on the level of detail and quality delivered on every job, and playing a part in making workplaces safer.
