Table Tennis player selected as part of the Special Olympic touch relay

Great Britain’s Special Olympics National Summer Games take place this August in Sheffield. As part of the build up to the games, the Special Olympic torch will travel 200miles, through towns and cities; starting in North Shropshire – The historic birthplace of the modern Olympic Games – and ending at the opening ceremony in Sheffield on the 8th of August.

As part of its journey, Bishop Auckland TTC’s Ben Robinson wll carry the touch through Ripon.   Ben – who has Autism and Learning Difficulties – plays as part of the clubs Talent Squad and is part of the Para GB Table Tennis development squad, aims to compete in the Paralympic games in 2024.

Ben has been selected to play at the National Games, where 2,600 other athletes with intellectual (learning) disabilities will compete in their discipline across 20 sports.

The club is open to people of all ages and abilities, running weekly coaching sessions and social sessions and is open to anyone.
