Tees Valley Mayor engages with Yarm students

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen visited Yarm School to engage with pupils and give an overview on his work as Mayor.

Speaking to pupils from across the year groups, Mr Houchen offered an insight into how important devolution and the role of Mayor is to the economic growth of the Tees Valley.

The students showed great interest in the Mayor’s talk and took part in a lively Q&A session.

Mr Houchen plans to visit schools around the region to involve young people and raise awareness of the important work being carried out by Tees Valley Combined Authority.  He also attended an event at King’s Academy in Coulby Newham later in September.

Mr Houchen said:  “These young people are the future of the Tees Valley and it is important that they are aware of what is happening in the region.

“The Tees Valley is leading the way in devolution and the benefits it brings to the region will improve their job prospects and demonstrate that it is a great place to build a career.”

Head of Politics at Yarm School Stephen Edwards said:  “We are grateful that the Mayor gave up his time to talk to our pupils, all of whom found it very informative.

“The role of Tees Valley Mayor is very new and Mr Houchen’s visit allowed them to understand more about devolution and how having an elected Mayor affects the region.”
