The Tees Valley Mayor has visited a global transport systems company planning expansion of its operations in Stockton.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen pledged to support Cubic in its aim to triple the workforce at their Global Operations Centre (GOC), headquartered in Stockton-on-Tees. The GOC services Cubic Transportation Systems, a business unit of Cubic Corporation, and supports Cubic’s leading intelligent travel services offerings around the world.
Cubic delivers integrated fare payment and information systems for transportation and traffic management, including tools for travellers to choose the smartest and easiest way to travel and pay for their journeys, the Oyster and contactless ticketing systems in London being an example.
Mayor Ben Houchen said: “I am proud that a global and innovative company, such as Cubic, has decided to open and expand one of its customer support functions within Tees Valley.
“Not only is Cubic continuing to grow, which further stimulates the local economy and secures the region as a leader in technological innovation, but it is doing so in a way that makes a tangible and direct difference to people’s lives.
“I wholeheartedly support Cubic’s commitment to strengthen the region. The Combined Authority will be working closely with the business to help its plans come to fruition.”
Cubic Transportation Systems is a market leader in the UK, Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific regions including Australia. The company recently secured a $539million contract to deliver New York’s new electronic payment system for public transport, in addition to a $575million contract for Boston. Cubic processes more than 24billion financial transactions each year with more than 50million people using Cubic’s technology every day.
Craig Walton, Cubic’s IT Operations Manager, said: “This expansion is an exciting step forward for Cubic and indicates the faith we have in the region as a strong base of operations for years to come.”
Cubic Corporation headquarters is based in San Diego, California, with more than 8,700 employees worldwide.
