PIE JACKERS – a Middlesbrough-based artisan pie company run by Neil Fletcher and Julie Martin – was awarded TWO golds on Friday at the British Pie Awards.
One of the golds was for the company’s Hotshot Chicken pie – Neil and Julie’s take on the popular Middlesbrough dish, the Hotshot Parmo.
The pie contains locally reared chicken fillets, creamy béchamel sauce, jalapenos, pepperoni, cheese pastry and is topped with garlic breadcrumbs.
The second gold was awarded for their Steak, Guinness and Black Pudding pie.
Neil, a former graphic designer, and Julie, a former journalist, launched Pie Jackers less than a year ago after leaving successful careers in the PR industry.
Julie said: “We’re pinching ourselves, who would have believed it, from PR to pies and we win two golds, we’re thrilled.
“We launched Pie Jackers because we wanted to be part of the growing local food scene, so to win two gold awards in our first year is just a dream come true!”
Pie Jackers sells a range of pies at farmers’ markets and events across Teesside and North Yorkshire.
Neil and Julie also supply local venues – Sticky Fingers Cafe Bar in Middlesbrough and Olivers Fish and Chip Restaurant and Takeaway in Redcar.
